GameCraft @ Game Fleadh’s Results & Game Entries

Well done to everyone! We hope that GameCraft at Games Fleash was a great experience as well as lots of fun and laughter with a dash of adrenaline! :-)

First Prize Winner

This multiplayer escape from zombies apocalypse won overall best game, and a prize of a Lumia 800 thanks to Microsoft.

Some things we would like you to give feedback and/or leave in comments below:-

  • Anyone who wants to upload screen shots of their game, even incomplete ones, given we had some groups leaving early during the day, please tweet it with name of game and #gamecraft.
  • Let us know if you published your game by next week, either email (or comment below)
  • Andrea has announced we will be having a GameCraft in Dublin in May, it would be nice to let us know what dates suits/unsuitable for people because we are conscious of exams happening that month. Feedback would be appreciated.

Game Fleadh’s GameCraft Judges

Dave McCabe

Dave McCabe is a filmmaker, video game narrative designer and all around writer sort who has worked on more things than he’d care to remember. He’d give you a list, but it would just depress him when you’d heard of none of it. He has been playing video games since he couldn’t get past the first boss of an early 80′s version of ‘Green Beret’ that is so old he can’t even find a video for it on youtube. You can find him on twitter where he’ll probably say something about your ma.

Vicky Twomey-Lee

Vicky Twomey-Lee (a.k.a. )  is a coder, GameCraft co-organiser, general tech event organiser (/ Ireland are her main ones), helping out with , organising female coding workshops, and also this year’s invited to w00t’s Copenhagen Game Festival. She was also the researcher for Science Gallery’s recent flagship exhibition, GAME. She first fell in love with console games when her father brought back the Famicom in ’85 from Hong Kong with all the mod-cons followed by the Super Famicom. She has never looked back since.

She is also an aspiring artist (of sorts), loves kitties & unicorns.

GameCraft @ Games Fleadh – 14th March 2013

When: 14th March 2013, 11AM to 8.00pm
Where: LIT – Thurles

On Thursday 14th March many game developers from all over the country will gather together in Games Fleadh, to pour forth their creative juices in an extravaganza of game development talent that hasn’t been seen since…well, since the first Dublin GameCraft in November. That’s right, it’s time for another GameCraft . This time around, particpants, either individually or as a team, have a 7 hours to create a game centered around a random theme to be announced on the day. It will be exciting, it will be intense, it will be…slightly pungent, frankly. But it will be worth it! After 7 hours, a panel of highly trained judges (at least, they look highly trained) will examine each of the submitted games and select a few stand out entries to be awarded some awesome prizes. While the games are being pinched, prodded, and poked, we’ll all have some time for the all important networking. Participants are free to use whatever game creation platform they like, be that Unity, UDK, GameMaker, Construct2, XNA, or one of the myriad other fine platforms available today. Good luck and may the most ridiculous game win!

What happens on the day?

  • You with your team need to build a game from scratch, you have about 7 hours.
  • You can come with a team formed or form your team there
  • Platform agnostic
  • We select a topic during at the begining of the event
  • Start at 11am, then, at the end of the day (6pm ) all the games are be demoed
  • Judges vote .. there are prizes yay!
  • Everyone learns
  • People meet other people
